Delilah was the third cat to join PAWS — and the very first girl in our growing family.

She came to us from a breeder in Alicante, where she had been a devoted mum to her two boys (our very own Jim Carrey and Enrique Iglesias!). The kittens were still too young to leave the breeder when Delilah arrived, so she came alone, ready for a new chapter.

Over the summer, before PAWS opened, all the cats stayed together at a cozy home to get used to each other and their new life. Delilah needed a little extra time. At first, she was shy and timid — hiding in the kitchen while the boys roamed freely. We could see she felt unsure around the other cats, so we gave her her own quiet room where she could relax without pressure.

The real turning point was focusing on her bond with us humans first. Day by day, with gentle attention, soft voices, and plenty of patience, we watched the fear melt from her eyes. Delilah blossomed into the most affectionate girl — suddenly her life purpose seemed to be protecting and loving her people. She would follow us around, check in on us, and offer head bumps full of trust ♡

When we slowly reintroduced her to the other cats, something beautiful happened: Delilah naturally stepped into a motherly role. Her mix of bold confidence and nurturing warmth helped keep the group calm and cared for. Even today, she carries that gentle authority — watching over everyone with quiet strength.

Delilah isn’t one for close cuddles unless she initiates them (she knows her worth and sets her own boundaries!), but she’s incredibly affectionate in her own way. Let her sniff your hand first, offer soft, gentle strokes, and respect her space — she’ll reward you with purrs and companionship. Skip the belly rubs (not her favorite), but treats and playtime? She’s all in.
